GANGTOK, : The newly elected executive committee of Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) led by their president Jacob Khaling called on Chief Minister PS Golay at his official residence here on Thursday evening.
During this meeting, the BAS executive body apprised the Chief Minister about the association’s ongoing efforts to promote badminton across every nook and corner of the State, a press release informs.
BAS president Jacob Khaling, also the Chief Minister’s political secretary (political affairs), shared the mission and vision of BAS, outlining the association’s commitment to nurturing young talent and strengthening the badminton culture in Sikkim. He also presented the detailed calendar of events planned for the 2025-26 season.
The BAS events are inter-school sub-junior and junior badminton tournaments, State ranking tournaments, 2nd Sikkim Premier Badminton League 2025, All India Chief Minister’s Cup, and hosting the national badminton championship in Sikkim.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the association's dedication and assured the full support of the government in furthering the mission of BAS. He also consented to be the chief patron of BAS, reinforcing his commitment to the development of badminton in the State, the release mentions.
Furthermore, he granted his approval for the All India Chief Minister’s Cup Badminton Championship and the Inter-School Team Championship 2025.
The BAS extended its deepest gratitude to the Chief Minister for his time, encouragement, and unwavering support. His visionary leadership continues to inspire progress in Sikkim's sports landscape, and BAS remains committed to realizing the dream of a ‘Sunaolo Sikkim’ through sports development, said the association.
