Bista demands CBI inquiry into alleged medical mafia in NBMCH

SILIGURI,: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has written a letter to West Bengal Governor seeking a CBI enquiry into the alleged “medical mafia” at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

Bista, who participated in a solidarity rally on RJ Kar incident in Siliguri, informed that he wrote a letter to Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose to intervene in the case of ongoing agitation by medical students at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, and requested for a CBI inquiry into the “medical mafia” running the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

“I have informed Governor that the NBMCH junior doctors have exposed how TMC linked leaders are running a medical mafia in the institution.  They have alleged that the TMC leaders were involved in intimidating junior doctors, physically harassing them, manipulating examination results, indulging in fraud. There are allegations of TMC affiliated hospital administration siphoning off crores of money from medical infrastructure projects that were to be developed in NBMCH,” said Bista.

There are further allegations that TMC leaders have used their connections with the administration and government to tamper marks in favour of TMC leaders and their supporters, deducting marks of junior doctors who complained, physically harassing female students, extorting students who live in the hostel and forcing them to do their bidding among other things, Bista added.

“TMC-affiliated doctors who were present at the crime scene of the RG Kar medical student rape and murder case, who have also been named in Medinipore Medical College case as well, are also alleged to be involved in threat-culture in propagating threat culture, through marks manipulation in NBMCH, and there seems to be strong link in the medical mafia spread across West Bengal.”
