GANGTOK, : Author Chuden Kabimo released
his second novel ‘Urmal’ at an event held in Gangtok on Wednesday.
The book release ceremony was
attended by School Education secretary and poet Tashi Chophel Lepcha as the
chief guest and Bethel Infra Project Pvt. Ltd managing director Amrit
Biswakarma as the guest of honour. Also present were Nepali Sahitya Parishad
Sikkim president Hari Dhungel and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Tashi
Chophel Lepcha congratulated Kabimo on the successful release of his second
novel. He praised the author’s writing style, stating that Kabimo’s works are
not just fiction but also serve as a historical record of the region and its
people. “His novels are truly inspiring, and I believe that one day they will
be adapted into visual entertainment. I wish him the best for his future endeavours,”
he said.
Reflecting on his latest work,
Chuden Kabimo shared that ‘Urmal’ took nearly five years to complete, as
meeting the expectations set by his first novel ‘Fatsung’ was a challenge. “The
novel features multiple characters and explores diverse cultural, historical,
and linguistic elements. As an author, I feel it is my responsibility to do
justice to all the communities of the Dooars region, highlighting their traditions
and struggles,” he said.
He informed that ‘Urmal’ sheds
light on the hardships and sacrifices of tea plantation workers. “People begin
their day with a cup of tea but rarely consider the labour and sacrifices
involved in its production. This story aims to bring their struggles to the
forefront,” he added.
Amrit Biswakarma extended his
best wishes to Kabimo and expressed gratitude for being part of the book’s
journey. “We must collectively contribute to the growth of literature, as
education and literature form the foundation of society,” he said.
Chuden Kabimo is a recipient of
the ‘Crossword Award’ and his debut novel ‘Fatsung’ has sold over 15,000 copies
to date.
