GANGTOK,(IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay inaugurated the State Panchayat Resource Centre at the GMC building, Deorali today.
This facility is dedicated to strengthening local governance by offering training, capacity-building, and resource support to panchayat representatives and stakeholders. By providing local leaders with the necessary skills and resources, the centre will play a crucial role in bolstering grassroots democracy and improving the impact of community-driven initiatives in the region.
In attendance were, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, MLA cum Advisor, Urban Development Department and Food & Civil Supplies department; Kala Rai, MLA cum Advisor, Rural Development department; Balaram Adhikari, Zilla Adhyaksha, Gangtok; D Anandan, principal secretary, RDD; Norzing Tshering, secretary, RDD; Tenzing D Denzongpa, director, Panchayat Raj, RDD, and officials from the department and other line departments.
Tenzing D Denzongpa, director, Panchayat Raj, RDD, in his address, highlighted that the resource centre will play a crucial role in training, capacity-building, providing support to Panchayat representatives and other stakeholders. He noted that the Sikkim Panchayat has received national recognition and emphasised the benefits provided to its members by the state government. Additionally, he informed that the total cost of the project amounted to Rs. 2.85 crore.
