Neglected Water Hyacinth, once left to waste by pond sides, are now transformed into stylish bags and coin purses adorning your arm. A unique collection of artifacts derived from Water Hyacinth has emerged at the OSOP (One Station One Product) stall at Adisaptagram Station, West Bengal. Utilizing processed Water Hyacinth, the stall offers a range of items including bags, coin purses, pen stands, files, round trays, oval trays, tea baskets, and other utility items, all crafted with finesse and available at fair prices.

A few days ago, Smt. Arati Debnath, trained in this craft, applied to Indian Railways to open an OSOP stall at Adisaptagram Station. Indian Railways has been establishing OSOP stalls at various stations to provide local artisans and craftsmen with a wider market for their products. The application for selling Water Hyacinth -derived products at the OSOP stall was promptly approved, ensuring employment opportunities and fair income for skilled artisans in this sector.

The 'Samajik Pahal Foundation' has been providing training to local artisans in crafting handmade items from Water Hyacinth. These trained artisans, showcasing their products at the OSOP stall in Adisaptagram, have been receiving orders from both domestic and international markets. Consequently, employment opportunities and incomes have risen, lifting many artisans above poverty line and into socio-economic prosperity. Through the OSOP stall at different stations of Eastern Railway, the concept of "Vocal for Local"  and  “Local to Global “ is being actively promoted, facilitating the empowerment of local craftsmanship and ensuring its global recognition.
