The eco of masses for a search of a leader from among its own, a son of the soil with an exceptional character toiled from the remote village of Takling in Kurseong Sub division, overcoming the harsh realities of our simple yet painstakingly deprived region, wanting for a roaring voice to be echoed from amongst our own, born and brought up in our very own hills familiar with the nooks and corners of our region blessed by sacred Mahakal hill and protected by the most enchanting and majestic Kanchenjunga. A ray of sunshine shines upon our hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong stroking every individual with the message of hope that there exists one amongst us. Known for his bravery, sincerity, loyalty, kindness and a legacy that is recognized in the four corners of our motherland yet recent to our lands and rivers. Having served our nation, guarded our boarders and leaders we have among us an individual who possesses all the qualities that we as hill people from Darjeeling and Kalimpong are renowned for, portrayed by the one Gyachho Tshering Lepcha AKA G.T. Lepcha.
Nestled in a distant village of Taklin in Takdha block of Kurseong is the residence of Shri Lepcha, who has worked alongside with prominent figures of India, like the former Prime Minister of India, late Shri Atal Vihari Vajpayee Ji. Having enrolled for his primary schooling in Taklin Junior basic school and moving on to Teesta to complete his matriculation, Shri Lepcha had to encounter the difficulties that every far-off villager faces. He then moved to Kurseong to earn a living to ease the burden of family responsibilities at the Railway Printing Press. The hard-working lad soon got an opportunity to enlist for the paramilitary services and he serve his nation. With an exceptional track record Shri Lepcha was retained as a field officer in the Special Protection Group (SPG) in the year 1993 where he had an opportunity to serve former Prime Ministers Shri Narasima Rao and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. He served Shri Vajpayee ji for the longest period.
Conferred upon Shri Lepcha amongst many titles are the Police Medal for meritorious Service in 2005 and the Presidents Medal for distinguished Service in the year 2014. He has travelled to as many as 54 countries in the call of duty and has been helping the downtrodden in his valuable years of service to the country. His sincerity, loyalty and honesty has earned him a reputation as a member of the family of Shri Vajpayee ji. The last rites of Shri Vajpayee ji saw the family await the condolences from Shri Lepcha in person and he has remained till date the most trusted and welcomed figure in their family. Many influential entities, specially in the political arena such as Shri Rajnath Singh Ji, Union Minister of Defense, Shri J. P. Nadda Ji, President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shri Anurag Thakur Ji, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani Ji, Member of Parliament, Shri. Nitin Gadkari Ji Minister of Road Transport and Highways Government of India have also acknowledged and embraced Shri Lepcha, the close friend of Shri Vajpayee Ji as their own and has remained in touch.
Shri Lepcha’s vision forward is to help his region and the people get their constitutional identity using whichever means possible. Knowing clearly that only the son of the soil has the right to voice the aspirations of the people.
