DARJEELING,: The Indo-Nepal border and
Indo-Bangladesh border will be sealed from the evening of April 23 till
completion of April 26 Lok Sabha poll in Darjeeling.
Darjeeling District Magistrate issued an
advisory today, stating: “For the smooth
conduct of election, all the international border (land) routes (Entry and
Exit) need to be sealed and movement of both people and vehicles be restricted
from 6 pm from April 23 till completion of poll.”
The order stated that movement of both
people and vehicle for exit to Nepal and Bangladesh and entry to Indian
Territory from Nepal and Bangladesh under the jurisdiction of Darjeeling
district will be restricted.
Exemptions are being given to medical
emergency cases to travel from Nepal and Bangladesh to India along with Indian
citizens or foreign tourists who are already on tour or otherwise in Nepal and
Bangladesh to be allowed, on producing valid travel documents to competent
authorities.
Also, all tourists willing to travel to
Nepal and Bangladesh will be allowed on producing valid travel documents to
competent authorities along with movement of essential goods vehicles to be
allowed after thorough checks at border check posts. The order maintains that
any voter of Darjeeling PC, may be allowed to enter Darjeeling district
jurisdiction on production of proper documents during intervening period
including poll day.
