NH10 to remain closed for three days, traffic diverted to alternative routes

DARJEELING,: NH 10, the main route connecting the State of Sikkim and Kalimpong district with Siliguri will remain closed from May 6 morning to May 9 morning with traffic to be diverted along different routes.

The order for vehicular movement restriction was issued on Friday by the Kalimpong district administration citing reasons for bituminous work to be done at the stretch between Rabi Jhora to Gail Khola along NH 10 on May 6-9.

“A prayer has been received from the PWD National Highway Executive Engineer on 30th April requesting restriction and diversion of movement of all type of vehicles to carry out bituminous work at the stretch between Rabi Jhora to Gail Khola along NH 10. For this it is necessary to impose temporary restrictions for movement of all types of vehicles to carry out this work between the stretch,” reads the order from Kalimpong DM Balasubramanian T.

“I direct to restrict and temporarily divert the movement of all types of vehicles in the NH 10 stretch from Rabi Jhora to 29th Mile on and from 6 am of 6th May to 6 am of 9th May,” he added.

The order states that only small vehicles will move from Rangpo towards Siliguri via Munsong-17th Mile-Algarah-Lava-Gorubathan and to Siliguri and vice versa round the clock along with these vehicles also being allowed to move via Chitrey-Kalimpong town-Algarah-Lava-Gorubathan and to Siliguri.

Goods vehicles will be diverted through Chitrey-Kalimpong town-Algarah-Lava-Gorubathan-Siliguri and vice versa from 9 pm to 6 am with both goods vehicles and small vehicles be allowed via Reshi-Pedong-Algarah-Lava-Gorubathan and to Siliguri.

Necessary restrictions are to be imposed at Rangpo checkpost, Chitrey and at District border NH-10 stretch by the police for facilitating the route diversion, stated the order.
