School Education secretary visits North Sikkim schools

GANGTOK,: School Education secretary Tashi Chophel along with Samagra Shiksha additional director A.D Chettri, programme officer and accounts officer visited the schools of Mangan district on November 21 and 22.

The team from Education department, Gangtok was accompanied by the chief education officer, joint director, deputy director (Passingdang BAC), assistant director (Mangan BAC) and a team from the engineering section led by the assistant engineer, informs a press release.

On the first day, the team visited Gor secondary school, Hee-Gyathang senior secondary school, Sonam Choda Lepcha memorial secondary school (Lingdong), Passingdang secondary school and Tingvong secondary school under Passingdang Block.

Secretary Tashi Chophel visited the classes and interacted with the students and teacher in all the schools he visited. A short meeting with school faculties was also conducted in all schools wherein, all the directives of the department were discussed.

The main aim of his visit was with regard to Chief Minister’s Mentorship Programme which focuses the students of class X and their successful completion in class X board examination. Winter coaching classes for class X and the result of recently conducted pre-board examination was discussed with the school heads and the subject teachers.

The secretary directed everyone to be serious and accountable to achieve 100% result in 2025 class X board examination. Besides, the secretary inspected the ongoing civil works in all the schools and sought detailed report from the engineering section.

On the second day, the team visited Naga secondary school which has been shut since August 2024 after landslides damaged the school infrastructure. The students have been shifted and accommodated at Singhik secondary school.

The secretary surveyed the school area and the hostel facility at Singhik school where 78 students of Naga have been accommodated.

The under-construction polytechnic college at Ringhim was also inspected. The secretary sought a detailed report from the engineering section of Social Welfare department who are monitoring the construction.

Ringhim secondary school, Tingchim secondary school and Jushing primary school, under construction polytechnic college at Mangshilla, Bakcha primary school and PM Shri Tingda primary school were also visited by the secretary, accompanied by assistant education officer (Kabi BAC) Tashi Bhutia, the release mentions.
