SILIGURI,:
In light of the alarming rise in child abuse and violence, Smile Group
Foundation, Bagdogra organized a special Children’s Day event aimed at raising
awareness and empowering the community to address these critical issues.
Over
500 students from various areas participated in the programme which focused on child abuse prevention, mobile addiction, and health
and hygiene.
The
event, supported by social organizations, teachers and individuals, featured
workshops, discussions and a sit-and-draw competition involving children and
their parents. The sessions taught participants about good and bad touch, the
harmful effects of mobile addiction and ways to promote health and hygiene.
Sabyasachi
Dey, founder of the Smile Group Foundation, emphasized the urgency of
addressing child abuse and mobile addiction. “The alarming rise in cases of
child sexual abuse necessitates programs like these in every corner of society.
Mobile phone addiction among children is another pressing issue, and such
events can help redirect their focus to more productive activities,” he said.
Arun
Sharma, the foundation’s chief advisor, appealed to society to actively support
the cause. “Children are the future pillars of society and a worthy asset to
the nation. Their talent must be nurtured, and their creativity encouraged
through education. A child’s development is a critical process with no second
chances. Once missed, opportunities for growth close forever,” he said.
In
addition to the awareness program, wheelchairs were distributed to physically
challenged individuals by the foundation. A blood donation drive was also held.
