GANGTOK, : St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling hosted the ‘Department of the Year’
event on Saturday. Organised by the Students’ Council in collaboration with
various college clubs, the event was a celebration of cultural diversity,
creativity, and academic spirit, informs a press release.
The
program commenced with a warm welcome by the assistant head councillor,
followed by a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony graced by principal Fr.
Dr.Donatus Kujur, dean Dr.Radha Sharma, Vice Principal Fr. Binoy Xavier, and SFC
director Fr. Sanjay Lakra.
Setting
the tone for the day, the Dance Club leaders delivered a high-energy opening
performance which was followed was a series of cultural showcases by students
from various departments, each reflecting their unique artistic and traditional
heritage.
The
participating departments included Commerce, Geography, Political Science,
Nepali, Botany, BA Multidisciplinary, Chemistry, History, English, Zoology,
Physics, Computer Science and Applications, Sociology, and Microbiology. Their
performances ranged from traditional folk dances to modern interpretations of
cultural narratives, enthralling the audience and judges alike.
After
a competitive and engaging display of talent, the Department of Political
Science was declared the winner for stunning Tamang Selo dance. The Department
of Sociology secured the second position with an energetic Jhyaure Dance, while
the Department of English impressed with their Lavani Dance, earning them the
third place.
As
the event drew to a close, the Music Club Duo delivered a mesmerizing Nepali
folk song performance, followed by the much-anticipated announcement of
results.
