GANGTOK,: Gangtok-based rock band Still Waters is set to perform at the
first edition of the Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav, scheduled to be held at
Rashtrapati Nilayam, Bolarum, Hyderabad from September 29 to October 6.
The
festival is organised by Rashtrapati Nilayam in collaboration with the Ministry
of Development of North-East Region and the Ministry of Culture. The President
of India will inaugurate the Mahotsav on September 28.
The
eight-day long celebration will showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage
of the eight North-Eastern States. Visitors will get acquainted with the art,
culture, crafts, and culinary diversity of the North-Eastern States of
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and
Tripura. More than 300 artists and artisans from these States would be
participating in the event.
Still
Waters is a rock band from Gangtok formed in 2001.Playing their brand of
"Feel good High-Energy Riff Rock", Still Waters have gone through
probably every kind of achievement that a rock band in India can aspire to go
through. Taken from the old saying "still waters run deep" the band's
name reflects the band's music and image.
Still
Waters started adding respectable laurels to its list of achievements real
early - major college fest' victories, full-length album's release, headlining
gigs, T.V appearances, Best Indian Band nominations. Since then, the band has
been playing all over the country.
The band
mainly focuses on creating original music "Feel good, Riff Rock Band"
as it is normally called by most.
The band
is currently working on their 3rd full-length album. After a series of line-up
changes over the years, there are 5 present members namely Abhishek Lemo Gurung
(Vocals), Sonam Lachungpa (Lead Guitar), Lokes Mangar (Bass), Subham rai
(Rhythm Guitar) and Siddhartha B Gurung on Drums.
Still
Waters is on the list of longest surviving rock ‘n roll band in India- 22 years
and counting.
