GYALSHING, (IPR): The inaugural ‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival, themed “Where
Hospitality Meets Heritage,” commenced today in Darap village under Gyalshing
district. Organized by Darap Tourism Development Committee (DTDC), the festival
aims to showcase the village’s rich cultural identity and heritage through
tourism.
Minister
and area MLA Bhim Hang Subba inaugurated the event.
In
his brief address, the minister emphasized the significance of sustainable
tourism that promotes local culture and supports economic growth while
preserving the region’n natural beauty. He announced that the festival would be
an annual event with plans for more local elements in the future.
Following
the opening ceremony, dignitaries toured the village, visiting exhibitions of
locally grown flowers, handmade bamboo crafts, millet products from self-help
groups and traditional textiles. Cultural dance performances enriched the
festive atmosphere.
The
‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival will run until October 20, with a variety of
cultural events and exhibitions planned, inviting tourists and cultural
enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the traditions and hospitality of Darap
village.
Also
present were SKM Tourism Wing president Narayan Khatiwada, CLC president Tashi
Wongyal Bhutia, DTDC president Shiva Gurung and executive members, local
panchayats and other dignitaries.
