SILIGURI, : What was once a dumping ground and a spot for open defecation has now
been transformed into a selfie zone and mini garden, thanks to the efforts of a
youth from Bagdogra currently working in Israel.
Additional
DFO Rahul Dev Mukherjee, Bagdogra Traffic Guard OC Swapan Roy, Guru Parmananda
of Pranami Mandir (Naxalbari) and Laxman Sitoula jointly inaugurated the project,
which is a first-of-its-kind in Bagdogra.
Chandan Sitoula,
who hails from Bagdogra and is currently employed in Israel, invested around
Rs. 5 lakh in the beautification of the former dumping site.
Additionally,
ST Waiba from Jaigaon contributed eight garden chairs for elderly residents to
use during their morning and evening walks.
The
newly created garden and selfie zone will be maintained by Upper Bagdogra Gram
Panchayat.
During
the inauguration ceremony, Pradhan SanjibSinha, UpaPradhan Sanjeet Mahato,
opposition leader in the Panchayat, LakhiSinha and other members were present.
Sinha
assured that streetlights and additional lighting will be installed to further
enhance the area’s beauty after dark.

Mukherjee lauded Chandan Sitoula’s initiative and his generous contribution
towards the beautification of the space, calling it a valuable gift for the
people of Bagdogra.
Speaking
over the phone from Israel, Chandan Sitoula said he had dedicated the project to
the people of Bagdogra as a gift and urged everyone to help maintain the space
and keep it clean.
