GANGTOK, : BJP Sikkim Mahila Morcha on Saturday marked International Women’s Day
with great fervour, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds to
celebrate their achievements and contributions to society.
The
event in Gangtok featured T. Norzing Bhutia, a retired Central government
employee, as the chief guest, alongside State BJP president DR Thapa as the special
guest and GMC councillor Bindhya Cintury as the guest of honour. The gathering
witness the felicitation of women entrepreneurs and social workers in
recognition to their contributions in their respective fields, a press release
informs.
The
chief guest expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and the Central government for the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, emphasizing its
vital role in supporting senior citizens. Sharing her personal experience, she
highlighted how, at the age of 85, she has greatly benefited from the scheme,
which provides medical coverage of up to Rs.
5 lakh.
In
his address, State BJP president DR Thapa reaffirmed the BJP-led government’s
dedication to women’s welfare and empowerment, highlighting landmark
initiatives such as 33% reservation for women in the State Assemblies and
Parliament. He also highlighted various Central government schemes to empower
women in different sectors as the party observed the IWD under the theme of ‘Financial
Empowerment of Women’. He also lauded the immense contributions of Sikkimese
women across various fields and paid tribute to those who have played a pivotal
role in shaping Sikkim’s progress, the release adds.
Beyond
Gangtok, International Women’s Day was also celebrated at the State BJP head office,
Singtam, and Soreng district, reflecting the party’s commitment to recognizing
and uplifting women across Sikkim. The celebration honoured womanhood,
resilience, and progress, reinforcing BJP’s unwavering commitment to women’s
empowerment, the release adds.
