MANGAN, (IPR): The process of safe return
of tourists from Chungthang began early Friday morning through the newly
constructed Bailey bridge at Sangkalang. As per the current data at the site,
around 200 vehicles have already passed through the bridge and are on their way
to Gangtok via Mangan.
The Bailey bridge was launched recently by the
Trishakti Corps, Indian Army and was inaugurated only yesterday.
Mangan District Magistrate Anant Jain along with ManganSP
Sonam Detchu Bhutia visited the site to monitor and guide the operations on the
ground.
While roads to Lachen and Lachung remain closed
due to mudslides caused by heavy rainfall last evening, efforts are underway to
clear the routes, with restoration work being carried out on priority to ensure
continued movement and safety of travellers.
Meanwhile, the district administration has made
all necessary arrangements to ensure that the tourists stranded at Lachung and
Lachen are safe.
After taking stock of the situation at Sangkalang,
the District Collector, along with the Mangan SP and DDMA deputy director
proceeded towards Chungthang for further assessment.
