Funds announced for health projects in Sikkim
GANGTOK, (PIB): On his two-day official visit of Sikkim, Union Communication
and DoNER (Development of Northeast Region) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had a
detailed discussion on various ongoing projects along with decision on future
roadmap for Sikkim with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay.
After the
meeting on Friday morning, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Union Minister
Jyotiraditya Scindia briefed the media at Samman Bhavan.
Speaking
to media, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia informed that the government at
the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed
Northeast on the priority list of development.
Under the
project of DoNER Ministry, telecom connectivity has been provided to over 4,500
villages and very soon the whole of Northeast will be covered hundred percent
under the network, he informed.
In order
to further the connectivity of Sikkim, dialogues will be held with big airline
companies for regular service from Pakyong airport, he informed.
For
development and cultural dissemination of the Northeast, DoNER ministry will be
organising three conclaves including Banker’s Conclave which will be chaired by
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he informed.
Along with it, Northeast Investor’s Summit and Asta Laxmi Handloom
Summit will also be organised, Union Minister Scindia informed.
Along
with development and cultural dissemination of the Northeast, Union Minister
Scindia announced Rs 6.00 crore for development of 70-bedded hospital, Rs 170
crore for government medical college and assistance for purchase of new
equipment for the 500-bedded Namchi hospital.
Stating
that this is his first visit to Sikkim after assuming the charge of Ministry of DoNER, he hoped that a new epoch
of development would be written together with the Chief Minister and government
of Sikkim.
Chief
Minister Prem Singh Tamang in his address informed that he had just invited the
Union Minister last week on his visit to Delhi and it is an honour to have him
here in Sikkim within short span of time.
Union
Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today reviewed various ongoing project of DoNER
Ministry and put thrust on stalled and lagging projects. He also assured
assistance for infrastructure development, promotion of tourism, new technique
for farming and roadmap for development of industries in Sikkim.
