GANGTOK,:
The 14th ‘Friday Field/Farm Day’ brought forth a wave of optimism and
exceptional results as the initiative to revive barren land continue to gain
traction in the community. This program, which has rapidly garnered attention
and participation, aims not just to focus on agricultural productivity but also
the holistic development of the region’s socio-economic structure, a press
release informs.
The
Friday Field/Farm Day initiative is a groundbreaking program initiated under
the auspices of the Additional District Collector’s Office in Pakyong district.
In collaboration with various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture,
Animal Husbandry, Cooperation and Rural Development, the program strives to
transform barren land into thriving agricultural landscape.
As
the program unfolds, it has demonstrated an exceptional capacity to unite local
communities, farmers, and government officials. This cooperation is vital in
our collective effort to breathe new life into previously unproductive areas,
effectively transforming them into flourishing agricultural hubs that will not
only benefit those directly involved but also the region at large, informs the
release.
This
initiative fosters an environment of collaboration and shared responsibility
among all stakeholders. The interaction and support between local farmers and
government entities have encouraged knowledge sharing and resource pooling.
Farmers
have taken part in hands-on workshops, learning about sustainable farming
techniques, crop diversification, soil fertility restoration, and the effective
use of organic fertilisers, all of which play an essential role in agricultural
reform. This education is crucial for ensuring that the transformation of
barren land is not merely a one-time event, but a continuous journey towards
sustainable practices and food security.
The
Additional District Collector’s Office in Pakyong has extended gratitude to
zilla and gram panchayats, BDOs and the dedicated teams at BAC, PRI assistant
director and all staff members of the Gram Prashasan Kendras. Special
recognition goes to Krishna Dhakal, ADO, Rhenock Block; Kesari Sharma, HDO,
Rhenock, and all the committed staff at the GPUs and Blocks for their hard work
and valuable contributions in advancing this community-driven initiative, the
