Governor chairs executive board and general council meeting of Namgyal Institute of Tibetology

GANGTOK, : Governor Om Prakash Mathur chaired the executive board and general council meeting of Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT), Deorali at Raj Bhavan today. The Governor is also the president of NIT,Deorali.

Present at the meeting were commissioner cum secretary to the Governor, Jitendra Singh Raje, Culture secretary B.K. Lama, Higher Education secretary TsewangGyachho, NIT director Dr.Passang D. Phempu, Health and Family principal director Dr. D.C. Sharma, Finance principal director Rajendra Sharma, formervice- chancellor of CHITS, Varanasi, Prof.GesheNgawangSamten, Higher Education (Gwalior) OSD Prof. Anil Kumar Sharma,  Ecclesiastical additional director TenzingGelay, BhaichungTsheringBhutia from Sikkim University, Sikkim Higher Nyingma Studies principal KhenpoSonam and NIT administrative officer AngeeDenzongpa.

During the meeting, the Governor emphasized the importance of NIT as a significant institution. He suggested the creation of academic posts such as assistant professors as per the UGC guidelines to strengthen its academic framework. He further directed the finance committee to explore the creation of academic posts in the institution. Additionally, the Governor discussed the upcoming 30-bedded Sowa Rigpa Hospital in NIT premises and further urged to make necessary appointments of the staff as required, informs a press release.

Earlier, the NIT director delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude to the Governor for dedicating time to the meeting. He presented a detailed presentation of the institution.

The meeting discussed various agendas of the institution including upcoming activities and various decisions were also taken.

The meeting concluded with a unified commitment from the board members to work collaboratively in elevating NIT as a premier institution of the state, with aspirations to further establish it as a renowned institution on the national and global stage, the release adds.
