Hate speech accused sent to five days of police remand

GANGTOK, : Samson Tamang, arrested for his hate speech against the Khas community, has been sent for five days of police remand. He had been traced and apprehended by a Sikkim Police team at Bodhgaya on February 19 with support of Bihar Police.

Gangtok senior SP Tenzing Loden Lepcha, addressing the media here on Saturday, informed that Samson was presented before the court and sent to five days of police remand.

Investigation and questioning of the arrested person are under progress, said the Gangtok senior SP.

Samson faces multiple FIRs across Sikkim including one at Gangtok Sadar police station which was registered on February 3 under BNS sections 299, 196 (1), 352, and 353(2). He was arrested from Bodhgaya on February 19 and brought to Gangtok on February 21 via road after obtaining the transit remand from a Bodhgaya court.

Considering the sensitivity of the case and threats to the accused, two SAP patrolling teams have been deployed so that immediate action is initiated in case of any unwarranted activities, informed Lepcha.
