GANGTOK,: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has secured a commitment from Union
Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the expedited
restoration and upgradation of NH 10.
In a press
statement on Saturday, Bista shared that minister Gadkari, in a letter
addressed to him, has confirmed that his ministry is in the process of engaging
a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) to oversee the upgradation of the
Sevoke-Rangpo section of NH 10 to a 2L+PS standard including permanent
restoration of landslide prone spots.
Further, the
Union Minister has directed the National Highways and Infrastructure
Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to explore and evaluate alternative
alignments for NH 10 and to submit the best alignment as per the ministry’s
norms for finalisation.
“The NHIDCL has
formally taken over the Sevoke-Rangpo section, and proper planning and
redevelopment of the entire NH 10 will be undertaken. This is vital for
ensuring seamless connectivity for the region,” minister Gadkari stated in the
communication.
Expressing
optimism, MP Bista said, “Ensuring a complete overhaul and development of NH-10
is crucial for our region’s connectivity. I assure the people that the Central
government is prioritizing this matter.”
