R Telang to take charge as Sikkim’s new CS

GANGTOK: Chief Minister PS Golay has congratulated Ravindra Telang on his well-deserved promotion as the chief secretary of the Sikkim government.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to his dedication, expertise, perseverance, and resolute commitment to the ideals of public service. During his tenure I am confident that Sikkim will scale greater heights of progress, prosperity, and innovation ensuring impactful governance. I extend my best wishes for his tremendous success in this pivotal role,” said Chief Minister in congratulatory message.

Telang, an IAS officer of 1995 batch of Sikkim cadre, replaces outgoing chief secretary VB Pathak. With Sikkim government on a weeklong festive break starting December 28, Telang is expected to formally take charge as the chief secretary when the government offices resume on January 7, 2024.

In his message, the Chief Minister thanked the outgoing chief secretary VB Pathak for his tireless efforts and invaluable contributions to the welfare of the people of Sikkim during his tenure of service. I wish him good health and every success in his endeavors and a fulfilling and congenial retired life, the Chief Minister said.

An IAS officer of 1995 batch (Sikkim cadre), Ravindra Telang started his administrative career in Sikkim as the sub-divisional magistrate in Chungthang. He went on to serve in various progressive posts including as district magistrate before heading departments as the secretary and principal secretary. He was last serving as the additional chief secretary of Home and Education departments before being promoted as the chief secretary of Sikkim.

Telang has done B.Tech from NIT Bhopal and M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. After completing his M.Tech, he started preparing for the UPSC exams. He cleared the UPSC exams in his second attempt and was selected for the IAS batch of 1995, Sikkim cadre.
