GANGTOK,: Footballer Nimita Gurung from Rinchenpong has made the State proud by being part of the Odisha FC team that has successfully advanced to the group stage of the 2024-25 AFC Women’s Champions League.
Odisha FC won both of their preliminary round matches held in Jordan to secure their place in Asia’s elite women’s club competition.
Odisha FC, the Indian Women’s League champions, are making their debut on the international stage.
Chief Minister P.S. Golay took to Facebook to congratulate Nimita. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to her (Nimita) and wish her the best in all her future endeavours,” he wrote on Facebook.
Odisha FC will travel to Vietnam for the group stage competitions of the AFC Women's Champions League where they play against Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies from Japan, Taichung Blue Whale Women’s Football Team from Chinese Taipei and hosts Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC.
