GANGTOK,: In a moment of pride, Sikkim has been honoured with ‘Gold’ category among the best emerging eco-tourism destinations at the much-awaited Outlook Traveller Awards & Carnival 2024 held on November 30 in New Delhi.
This prestigious award highlights Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, and the promotion of eco-friendly travel practices. It reinforces Sikkim’s position as a leader in green tourism and showcases its efforts to balance development with environmental responsibility, said the Tourism department in a press statement Monday.
“The event was a standout moment in the travel calendar, gathering industry leaders, renowned travel brands, influencers, and tourism experts under one roof to celebrate the best in travel and tourism. At the heart of the occasion was the awards ceremony, a tribute to the destinations that have redefined innovation, sustainability, and exceptional service, setting a gold standard for the travel industry,” the department said.
The award was presented by Uttarakhand Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj.
Representing Sikkim, N Sridhar Rao, OSD and Peden Bhutia, Tourism assistant PRO Peden Bhutia accepted the accolade. The Tourism department expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister, Tourism minister and chief secretary for their guidance and support in reaching this milestone.
The department also thanked Outlook Traveller Awards 2024 for bestowing this prestigious award to Sikkim. This recognition motivates the State to further enhance its sustainable tourism practices while ensuring that visitors continue to experience Sikkim’s natural and cultural richness responsibly, said the Tourism department.
