GANGTOK,: Renowned philatelist and author
Roshan Prasad from Singtam, East Sikkim, excelled at the recently concluded
CHINA 2024 Asian International Stamp Exhibition, held from November 29 to
December 3 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
The
prestigious event, organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding
of the People's Republic of China, saw participation from over 50 countries,
highlighting the rich philatelic heritage and cultural exchange among Asian
civilizations, a press release informs.
Roshan
Prasad participated in the highly competitive literature class with his notable
works, ‘The Stamp Collector’s Dictionary’ and ‘The Stamp Chronicles—A Journey
Through Philately.’
His
contributions were recognized with two coveted awards, viz. the bronze medal
for ‘The Stamp Collector’s Dictionary’ and the silver-bronze Medal for ‘The
Stamp Chronicles: A Journey Through Philately’, the release mentions.
Speaking
about his achievement, Roshan Prasad expressed gratitude to the philatelic
community and highlighted the importance of such platforms in fostering global
cultural exchange. "It is an honor to represent on such an international
stage. These accolades reaffirm my commitment to promoting the art and history
of philately,” he said.
The
CHINA 2024 event, themed ‘Stamps Present Asian Culture,’ featured 1,600 frames
of competitive exhibits across 16 categories, including traditional philately,
postal history, and postal stationery.
For
the first time, First Day Covers (FDCs) were included as an exhibition class.
The event also celebrated milestones such as the 50th anniversary of the
Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP) and showcased commemorative stamps
issued by China Post.
Roshan
Prasad’s achievement not only underscores his dedication to philately but also
puts Sikkim on the global map of philatelic excellence. His books continue to
inspire collectors and enthusiasts, serving as a bridge between cultures and
