GANGTOK,: Four goals from the outstanding Simran Gurung secured a 4-1 victory for Sikkim in their opening match against Gujarat on Sunday in the ongoing 29th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2024 at Agartala.
“The match was defined by an outstanding performance from Simran Gurung, who single-handedly dominated the game with all four goals. Gurung's remarkable haul secured Sikkim's first victory and showcased her immense talent on the field,” informed the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) in a press statement.
Despite Gujarat's best efforts, they were only able to score once during the match, which wasn’t enough to overcome the relentless offense led by Gurung. Sikkim's defense held strong throughout the game, ensuring their commanding win.
This victory marks a significant moment for Sikkim’s team, boosting their morale as they look ahead to upcoming match against Tripura on October 22 with renewed confidence, said the SFA.
