GANGTOK,: A Sikkim BJP delegation led by president DR Thapa on Thursday met
Sikkim DGP Akshay Sachedva over the rising complaints against Samson Tamang.
Samson
had allegedly made offensive and racist remarks against the Khas community,
which have been widely condemned across Sikkim along with filing complaints in
multiple police stations here.
The
State BJP delegation, during the meeting with the DGP, enquired about the
action taken by Sikkim Police so far in the case.
“During
the meeting, the DGP informed the delegation that an FIR has been registered in
the matter and assured prompt action. He further directed the Superintendent of
Police to expedite the investigation, emphasizing the need for swift action in
the interest of Sikkim and its people,” said the BJP Sikkim in its media
statement.
Condemnation from Sikkim Sherpa
Protection Board
Similarly,
the Sikkim Sherpa Protection Board (SSPB) strongly condemned the casteist and
divisive remarks made by Samson against the Khas community and expressed its deep
concern over the lack of immediate action by the authorities.
“Sikkim
has always been a land of peaceful coexistence and unity among all communities.
Any attempt to create division must be dealt with firmly and without delay. The
continued inaction on this matter raises serious concerns and risks undermining
public trust,” said SSPB president Sonam Gyatso Sherpa in a media statement.
The
SSPB demanded that the Sikkim authorities take immediate legal action against
Samson and ensure that justice is served without delay. The administration
should act decisively to uphold social harmony and prevent further escalation
of tensions, he said.
“We
stand in solidarity with our Khas Chettri Bahun brothers and sisters of Sikkim,
who have always been an integral part of our shared history, culture, and
progress. Our unity is our strength, and no divisive agenda should be allowed
to disrupt the harmony among our communities. We also urge all communities of
Sikkim to stand together and oppose such divisive moves. Let us show that we
are a unified Sikkimese community, where respect, brotherhood, and harmony are
upheld above all,” said the SSPB president.
