State executive member attends BJP workshop on ‘One Nation, One Election’

GANGTOK,: Sikkim BJP executive member Pooja Sharma represented her State unit at the ‘One Nation, One Election’ campaign workshop held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Monday.

A press release informs that the workshop was chaired by Union minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and attended by BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal and other dignitaries.

The workshop also witnessed the participation of convenors and co-convenors from 28 States and 8 union territories.

The ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, currently under consideration by the Government of India, aims to synchronize all elections across the country, either on a single day or within a specific timeframe, to reduce election-related costs.

A key aspect of the proposal is the simultaneous conduct of elections for the Lok Sabha and State legislative assemblies across all 28 States and 8 union territories. The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Indian Parliament on December 17. This reform measure is expected to “redefine” governance by streamlining election schedules and improving efficiency.

Pooja Sharma said that such workshops are an incredible platform to discuss and shape the future of the nation’s electoral reforms. It was a privilege to be part of this historic initiative, discussing transformative ideas to strengthen our democracy and unify the electoral process, she said.
