GANGTOK, : Evacuation of stranded tourists from Lachen and
Lachung in North Sikkim has commenced after all the road blockages along the
Lachung axis were successfully cleared on Saturday afternoon.
A
press release from Mangan district administration informs that the road
blockages along the Lachung axis have been successfully cleared. Following the
clearance, the evacuation of stranded tourists from Lachen and Lachung
commenced immediately.
This
significant operation was a result of a coordinated and concerted effort by
multiple agencies and stakeholders.
The
Mangan district administration, under the leadership of DC Anant Jain, followed
by the Chungthang SDM and SDPO, worked in close collaboration with the Pipons
of Lachung Dzumsa, the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS), the General
Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), the Tourism department, and the Driver
Association of Chungthang, which included both luxury and local taxi drivers.
Critical support was also provided by men and machinery from AK Builders and
SUL, the release mentions.
The
evacuation operations that commenced yesterday were carried out from Chungthang
and successfully facilitated the safe movement of tourists who had been
stranded due to the earlier road blockages, said the Mangan district
administration.
The
district administration has extended its sincere gratitude to all departments,
associations, and individuals whose relentless efforts and commitment ensured
the success of the evacuation process.
