GEYZING,: The 13K Darap trail run organized by Amarathon Academy of Sikkim (AMAS) headed by ultra-runner Amar Subba on Sunday witnessed more than 300 participants, especially from Darjeeling hills, host Sikkim, Assam and Nepal. The run was held in numerous categories - open men and women and the different age group categories for both men and women.

The trail run which had starting point at Darap included 13 km of an extreme and steep to and fro route covering Pelling, Sangachoeling, Gadidara and final culmination point at Darap itself.

The Darjeeling hills runners in most of the categories of the trail dominated the run, securing the highest positions as the podium finishers in the different categories along with the Sikkim runners who stunned the seasoned runners to complete the podium with aplomb.

The open category of the run in men's category saw Hemant Limboo and Mohit Subba, both from Darjeeling and Ganga Hang Subba from Sikkim finishing first, second and third position respectively.

Likewise, in the women open trail run, Anjali Subba (Sikkim), Samjhana Subba and Jasodha Rai clinched the first, second and third positions respectively.

The run was also held in the age group categories belonging to 17 to 35, 36 - 49, 50 - 59, 60+ and the 80+ categories.

The cash prizes, trophies for the winners and the certificates of participation were handed over to the participants.

Amar Subba expressed that the 13K Darap trail run was organized not only to promote a long distance running but also to spread awareness on mental health issues with a clear message of marathon and any other sports-based initiative’s far reaching effectiveness to help improve the health and mental wellbeing of the people. He added that embracing the long distance run helps to overcome the stress, anxiety and gives meaning to life for the people.

Being part of any kind of athletic initiative not only improves your health but also provides a positive resolution to shape up your life, he said.

“Without the contributions, support of the individuals involved for the management of the run and patronization from the personalities such as ministers Bhim Hang Subba and TT Bhutia, DC (Geyzing) Tenzing D. Denzongpa and others, the run would have not been possible to organize successfully. I am thankful to all who sincerely contributed for the successful management of the run,” said Subba.

The runners who took part in the run appreciated the long distance running being endorsed by Amar Subba through his academy. They expressed that Amar Subba's contributions as a runner and his work for promotion of the long distance run have been praiseworthy.
