GANGTOK, : State BJP president DR Thapa has strongly condemned the ongoing issue
of irregular water supply at the State-run STNM Hospital, Sochakgang here.
Despite
being a premier government healthcare institution, the hospital is facing
persistent water supply disruptions—an issue that recurs almost every week,
said Thapa in a press statement on Tuesday.
“A
hospital, by its very nature, requires round-the-clock water supply to maintain
hygiene, provide care, and ensure the dignity and comfort of patients and their
families. Sadly, due to this negligent approach, poor patients and their
attendants—who rely on this hospital for essential medical care—are suffering
immensely,” said the State BJP president.
Thapa
questioned whether this persistent problem is due to the callous attitude of
departmental officers or a result of substandard work executed by the
contractor responsible for the water supply infrastructure.
“It
is truly disheartening that while Nature has given everything to our
Sikkim—this land is nothing short of heaven on Earth—our systematic failure has
made it a living hell. Today, we are proudly celebrating 50 years of Sikkim’s
integration with the Indian Union, with grand events and performances by
world-famous artists. However, we have failed in the most basic duty: providing
water to our people in hospitals, even when we have an abundant natural supply
at the source,” said the State BJP president.
“We urge the concerned department to immediately address this critical issue and ensure uninterrupted, 24/7 water supply to the hospital. The health and well-being of the people of Sikkim must not be compromised due to administrative apathy or poor-quality public works,” said Thapa.
