BRO deploys men and machinery to clear snow-covered border roads

GANGTOK, : BRO Project Swastik’s 758 BRTF has pressed their men and machinery to clear the snow-covered border roads in East Sikkim and North Sikkim.

In the past few days, weather in Sikkim has taken a swift turn because of which northern and eastern part of Sikkim is experiencing heavy snow fall. Strategically important roads along Lachung and Lachen axis, national highway to Nathu La and Tamze have experienced exceptionally heavy snowfall, which has caused disruption of socio-economic activities and posing a challenge to all road users.

Following an unprecedented heavy snow fall, the determined team of 758 BRTF under Project Swastik of Border Roads Organization (BRO) has mobilized their heavy machinery and manpower to keep strategic roads leading to border areas open, a press release informs.

Inspite of inclement weather conditions, the determined team of 758 BRTF have remained committed to keep these vital lines of communication open so that movement of men and material does not suffer, the release mentions.

“Freezing temperatures, insufficient oxygen, high winds and blizzards etc. could not deter the will and determination of brave workers of BRO, who despite all odds, has ensured unhindered movement vehicles in North and East Sikkim. Synergy of man and machine and an unwavering commitment and dedication to one’s duty have been on display by determined team of BRO during this period of heavy snow,” states the BRO release.
