GEYZING, : Chief Minister PS Golay on Wednesday announced that February 26,
starting next year, will be celebrated as Khas foundation day officially
recognized as a government holiday.
He
made the announcement during the 30th Khas foundation day organised
by Akhil Sikkim Khas Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh (ASKCBKS) here at Kyongsa
Ground.
In
his address, the Chief Minister congratulated the Khas community for organising
the ASKCBKS foundation day after 30 years and called it a historic event. He
added that the Khas community had to wait for 30 years to organize the historic
foundation day celebration which showcased the unity, brotherhood and
resilience to get united for the betterment of the community.
Golay
stated that he was the happiest person in Sikkim to be the part of Khas
community's 30th foundation day celebration because it showcased their unity,
brotherhood and progress.
The
Chief Minister maintained that in the past SDF government, the Chettri-Bahun
community were not allowed to be united, and a ‘divide and rule’ policy was
politically used against the Khas community.
“Whenever
these two communities tried to foster unity and made a sincere effort to come
together the erstwhile SDF government used all political ploys to divide them
because they fear unity, majority and significance of the Khas community,” said
Golay.
The
Chief Minister highlighted that the Khas community has contributed a lot in
different sectors of the State building efforts as
equally as other communities.
