DARJEELING,: As part of their initiative to improve healthcare services at Darjeeling District Hospital, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has added eight new beds to the Intensive Care Unit, bringing the total capacity to 16 beds.
GTA Health in-charge Rajesh Chauhan said, “We had promised to start eight more beds in the ICU unit soon which we delivered today. The total number of beds in the ICU now has risen to 16. This is part of our effort to improve health facilities for patients so they do not have to go outside to make avail of such facilities.”
Chauhan informed that each bed is equipped with a ventilator.
“We have plans to add more eight beds in the ICU soon making it a 24-bedded one. There have also been complaints of only five beds in the dialysis unit and we are planning to increase it with five beds more,” said Chauhan.
According to Chauhan, the GTA is also trying to increase the number of nursing staff to meet the rise in beds with talks going on with the government for it. Among other plans, he said that the cabins which had not been in use for a long time is being repaired and would start functioning soon.
“We are also taking special care of those who are not able to purchase medicines that are not provided by the hospital. The GTA chief executive is trying to provide such patients by buying these medicines where it is available,” said Chauhan.
