GANGTOK, : Former minister Dawcho Lepcha, the CAP Sikkim candidate for Gangtok
constituency, has promised to address the pressing issues of Gangtokians if he
is elected as their public representative.
Speaking
at a media conference here on Friday, Dawcho maintained that the State capital
is suffocating due to rapid unplanned urbanisation and lack of breathing spaces
and proper infrastructure. He highlighted that Gangtok and its people are
suffering for a long timedue to irregular power and water supply. Both the
previous government and present government ignored the requirements of Gangtok
and its citizens, he said.
If I am
elected as the Gangtok MLA, I promise to address all the issues and problems of
Gangtok in five years, said the CAP Sikkim candidate. I have started my
election campaign from today and though there is less time, I will make every
effort to personally reach every voter in Gangtok and share our party’s
programmes and vision for Gangtok and Sikkim, he said.
Dawcho
said the CAP Sikkim has made a strong impact within a short period based on its
founding agenda of bringing reforms in Sikkim and to correct all the
wrongdoings of the past and present governments. He appealed to the voters of
Gangtok to participate in the democratic process by coming forward to cast
their votes in large numbers.
Dawcho had
in past won two elections from West Sikkim as a SDF candidate.
The CAP
Sikkim candidate for Sangha seat, Norcho Lepcha also appealed to the voters of
Sangha seat to extend their support to him through their votes.
The other
candidates in Gangtok constituency are Delay Namgyal Barfungpa (SKM), Pintso
Chopel Lepcha (SDF), Pema Wangyal Rinzing (BJP) and Snumit Targain (INC). There
are 11,840 voters in Gangtok constituency.
