GANGTOK,: SKM Lok Sabha candidate Indra Hang Subba on Friday asserted that he
never failed to speak in the Parliament when it came to the interests of Sikkim
and Sikkimese during his first term as the lone Lok Sabha MP from Sikkim.
The
incumbent Lok Sabha MP highlighted how he recorded Sikkim’s strong objections
in the Parliament over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which saw the Union
Home minister recording in the House that CAA would not be implemented in
Sikkim. He reminded that the CAA while in a bill form had been supported by the
past SDF MP in the Lok Sahba.
Indra Hang
was addressing the SKM public meeting at Chakung ground from where party
president and Chief Minister PS Golay started his election campaign. He
reminded the gathering that it was the SKM government led by Chief Minister PS
Golay, working in close coordination with the Centre, which removed the
‘immigrant and foreigner’ tag on Sikkimese Nepali communities within 27 days of
such reference made in the Supreme Court judgement last year.
The SDF
could not remove the ‘immigrant and foreigner tag’ tag on the Sikkimese Nepali
communities in 25 years but due to our Chief Minister’s leadership and his
close relationship with the Centre, we managed to remove such objectionable tag
within 27 days, said Indra Hang.
Indra Hang
maintained that during his tenure, he repeatedly raised the demands for
Limboo-Tamang seats and tribal status for the left-out communities in the
Parliament, despite receiving limited time to speak in the House. I have always
recorded in the Lok Sabha that our communities have faced injustice and the
Centre must urgently start the process for giving them tribal status, he said.
The
incumbent MP stressed that the past SDF government could have delivered the
Limboo-Tamang Assembly seats during the 2006 Delimitation. But they were not
sincere towards the Limboo-Tamang communities and allowed Delimitation to
happen without reserving their seats even though the Centre had written to them
for reserving the Limboo-Tamang seats first, he expressed.
Indra Hang
urged the Sikkimese electorate, especially the youth, not to be misled by the
2.0 avatar of the SDF. Don’t be misguided by SDF 2.0, it is an old computer’s
processor in a new box, the party’s leadership have no interest in saving
Sikkim and their only interest in saving their family and their businesses, he
said.
“Because
of their prejudice towards woman, the SDF did not gave the ticket to a single
woman candidate this time and did gross injustice to the women of Sikkim by not
giving them political representation. They should stop singing songs about
women empowerment. Also, to vent their anger against our Chief Minister and due
to one person’s ego, they deliberately did not field a single Tamang candidate,”
said Indra Hang. He urged the youth to strengthen the hands of PS Golay for
comprehensive development of Sikkim.
Indra Hang
appealed to the people of Sikkim to support his candidature for another five
years term. I have come before the people again with five years of working
experience and I commit to do much better as your MP in the second term, he
said.
Indra Hang
also shared how the MPLAD funds were used in Sikkim during his tenure even
though such funds were affected during the two years of Covid pandemic. As
discussed and directed by the Chief Minister, the MPLAD funds were used in the
education sector where we created libraries and reading rooms in the schools
along with supporting infrastructure, he said.
“Indra Hang always spoke for Sikkim in
Parliament”
Chief
Minister & SKM president PS Golay, addressing the Chakung meeting,
reiterated that Indra Hang Subba always spoke in favour of Sikkim and Sikkimese
in the Parliament during his tenure as the Lok Sabha MP.
Indra
Hang, the incumbent MP, is the SKM candidate for the Lok Sabha seat.
“Our MP
did not get full five years to work due to Covid pandemic for two years.
Despite the short period, he has always spoken in favour of Sikkim and
Sikkimese, and we have given the opportunity again to our capable youth. He has
five years’ experience and this time, he will work harder in the Parliament
regarding the pending demands of Sikkim and with him in the Parliament, we are
confident of getting our demands fulfilled by the Centre,” said Golay.
Golay
urged the SKM candidates for Assembly elections to also actively seek votes for
Indra Hang while campaigning in their respective constituencies.
