GANGTOK,: Speaker Arun Upreti on Monday informed the Sikkim Legislative
Assembly that Gnathang-Machong legislator DT Lepcha has resigned from his MLA
post following his election as the Rajya Sabha MP of Sikkim.
The Rajya
Sabha MP election for Sikkim had been held last month which Lepcha, a BJP
legislator, won unopposed.
Lepcha,
after being elected as the Rajya Sabha MP, has resigned as the member of State
Legislative Assembly and his resignation has been accepted, said the Speaker,
extending best wishes to the Rajya Sabha MP.
Meanwhile,
a delegation of EIECOS + 1 met the Rajya Sabha MP on Sunday at his residence
and extended their best wishes for a fruitful tenure.
“During
the course of meeting, the team also appraised him on the long pending demand
of the 12 left-out communities of Sikkim. He has assured EIECOS + 1 of full
support and also assured the team for consistently following up the process of
the demand with the Central Government,” said the organisation in a press
statement.
