MANGAN, (IPR): Minister for Forest & Environment-cum-Area MLA Dzongu,
Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and Minister for Social Welfare and Area MLA
Lachen-Mangan, Samdup Lepcha visited Namprikdang ground to oversee the
preparations for the upcoming Namprikdang Namsoong Festival 2024-25, on
Wednesday. The event is scheduled to take place from January 10 to 12.
During the
visit, the MLA Dzongu inspected the ongoing preparations and instructed
district officials to expedite the work to ensure timely completion. He
emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards for the festival, which
is expected to draw significant participation from locals and tourists, alike.
The MLA
Lachen-Mangan also enquired about the progress and discussed various aspects of
the arrangements with the officials. He expressed satisfaction with the
preparations but urged for coordinated efforts to ensure a successful
celebration.
The
Namprikdang Namsoong Festival is a significant cultural celebration for the
Lepcha community, marking their New Year and harvest season. It serves as an
important platform to preserve and promote the community's unique traditions,
folklore and rituals while fostering unity and pride among locals.
The
festival will feature an array of activities, including an archery competition,
dance competitions and other cultural events designed to highlight and promote
local heritage. These activities aim to engage participants and visitors,
offering them a deeper understanding of the region’s traditions.
