DARJEELING,: Six houses were totally gutted at 11th Mile, Topkhana in Kalimpong on Saturday with one more partially damaged during a fire outbreak at around 12.30 pm in the afternoon.
It took more than four hours to bring the blaze under control by three fire tenders of Kalimpong fire station and Army.
Kalimpong Fire Station, officer-in-charge B.L. Sherpa said, “We got the information about the fire around 12: 45 pm after which we rushed to the spot. The army and locals helped us in dousing the fire but as it had spread extensively, it took us more than four hours to bring it under control. There was no casualty in the incident, and we can give the details of the extent of the damage only after talking with the affected family.”
All the houses present there had shops attached with it due to which the loss incurred by one family could be huge. The cause of the fire also could not be ascertained till now.
