PAKYONG,: Flight services of Spicejet, expected to resume at Pakyong Airport on
March 30, are delayed for one more month till April. The delay is attributed to
some technical issues of the private commercial airline.
Pakyong
Airport director Sanjeev Kumar Singh on Wednesday informed that the airport is
ready to host the flight services. The delay is not from our side but from
Spicejet’s side and accordingly, re-operation of flights is delayed, he said to
SIKKIM EXPRESS.
Earlier,
Spicjet had opened online tickets for Kolkata -Pakyong-Guwahati, Guwahati
-Pakyong-Kolkata, and Delhi-Pakyong-Delhi routes.
Now, the
online booking for the said routes has been cancelled by Spicejet on their
website.
The
Pakyong Airport director informed that hill-side cutting at the airport area is
underway by Bharat Construction. The work is expected to be completed by the
end of 2026 after which there will be operation of Indigo flights for Hyderabad
and Bangalore from Pakyong Airport, he said.
We are
also planning to expand the current Pakyong Airport runway by 1000 meters after
doing a pre-feasibility survey to host the Boeing 180-seater flight in the near
future at Pakyong Airport, said Singh.
