SILIGURI,: Chief Minister PS Golay on Wednesday asked the Sikkim government employees working outside the State to be punctual and dedicated to their duties.

Addressing a gathering during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a Health Care Center and Guest House building at the SNT Complex in Siliguri, the Chief Minister cautioned habitual absentees about possible disciplinary action.

Golay emphasized that employees posted outside Sikkim including those in West Bengal had been assigned after their willingness to work outside the State.

“The government did not force anyone to work outstation, but many are now enjoying salaries while staying at home and frequently remaining absent,” he remarked.

He also pointed out concerns regarding the Sikkim police personnel stationed outside the State, noting that many do not wear uniforms while on duty in places like Siliguri and New Delhi.

Additionally, he highlighted the inefficiency of Tourism department staff at Bagdogra.

“In Bagdogra, staffs under Sikkim Tourism department are quite often seen sitting idle when flow of tourists are maximum and do not even explain to tourists about addresses asked by them regarding tourism destinations of Sikkim State,” the Chief Minister said.

Stressing the importance of discipline, Golay stated, “Employees must fear divine consequences if they take salaries without performing their duties. I have received reports that several staff members at the SNT Complex do not attend work regularly. If I find this to be true, I will have them transferred back to Sikkim.”

The Chief Minister also warned Sikkim police personnel against neglecting their responsibilities and instructed them to maintain discipline by wearing uniforms and working diligently.
