Namchi, (IPR): Governor Om Prakash
Mathur is on a two-day visit to Namchi. On the first day of his visit, he
chaired an important meeting at the District Administrative Centre, Namchi.
The Governor
was joined by Satish Chandra Rai MLA Namchi-Singithang, Anjeeta Rajalim Zilla
Adhakshya Namchi, Ganesh Rai NMC chairman, J D Bhutia secretary to the
Governor, Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Dr. T N Gyatsho Sr. SP Namchi, Subash
Ghimirey ADC (HQ), Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, Dr. C P Rai ADC (Development)
Namchi, HoOs, Anganwadi and Asha workers, as well as progressive farmers from
the Namchi district.
Addressing the
gathering, the Governor underscored the importance of an interactive and
engaging session. He stressed his commitment to reach out to the people by
visiting grassroots-level areas, rather than staying confined to the Governor’s
residence. He remarked that his visits reflect a deep dedication to the
progress and well-being of the people of Sikkim.
He shared his
vision for the future of the State, urging every individual to dream of a more
successful and brighter society. He acknowledged Sikkim’s remarkable
achievements, particularly its status as India’s first organic State with zero
crime, but also highlighted the challenges it faces.
He expressed
concern over the rising suicide rates in the State, calling for greater efforts
to address this issue through awareness programmes and community outreach
initiatives.
He urged the
people of Sikkim to take an active role in the State's development. "Each
individual must make a commitment in their own life to engage with their local
Panchayat, share their ideas, and make a difference," he stated,
reinforcing the importance of collective action for societal progress.
He also spoke
about the vision of the Prime Minister’s Vibrant Villages Programme. This
initiative aims to stem the migration of youth from remote villages by ensuring
that rural areas receive the necessary infrastructure and resources for
sustainable growth.
Furthermore, he
advised the panchayats in Namchi district to identify suitable locations for
the development of football grounds, promoting physical activity among the
youth. He stressed the importance of elders in villages overseeing the
engagement of children in outdoor activities, ensuring their physical and
mental well-being.
During the
meeting, the HoOs of various line departments featured a comprehensive
presentation highlighting the schemes and policies of both the Central and
State governments which have been successfully implemented in Namchi district.
This was
followed by an interactive session with the beneficiaries, providing valuable
insights and feedback.
Further the
Governor inspected and interacted with panchayats and progressive farmers at
the Gram Prashasan Kendra in Assangthang. He addressed various ongoing
developmental programmes of both the Central and State governments, focusing on
issues such as water scarcity in rural and urban areas of Namchi.
The Governor
encouraged local bodies to make the most of Centrally Sponsored schemes and
funds available for development. He assured them of full support and
cooperation from the Central Government to ensure the successful implementation
of these programmes.
Later, the
Governor visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute, where he interacted
with visually impaired students. It was followed by his visit with the senior
citizens at the Old Age Home in Boomtar.
The Governor’s
visit marked a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between
the people of Namchi and the State and Central Governments, as well as
fostering collaborative efforts for the region’s growth.
