Governor visits Old Silk Route, interacts with local villagers

GANGTOK, : Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Friday visited Dzuluk, the old Silk Route, in East Sikkim. This historic route has been recognized as the 'Most Scenic Route in India' by the prestigious India Today Tourism Survey & Awards 2025.

During his visit, the Governor experienced and appreciated the breathtaking natural beauty of the region, a Raj Bhavan release informs.

The Governor stated that Dzuluk has historically served as a key trade route, connecting Tibet with the rest of the world. Over time, this ancient route has evolved into a major tourist attraction, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and adventurous charm. Stretching from Kalimpong to Nathu La and Kupup, the route is celebrated for its unique beauty and the thrilling experiences it offers to travellers.

Further, the Governor engaged with the panchayat members and local residents of the 'Vibrant Village' of Dzuluk. During this interaction, he gained insights into the challenges faced by the local community. He also visited the Dzuluk Army Transit Camp and held discussions with officials regarding key issues related to regional development, infrastructure, and community welfare.

This visit highlights the State's commitment to promoting tourism, enhancing border security, and supporting the socio-economic development of the region, while also fostering stronger connections with the local communities.

Additionally, the Governor paid a visit to the Old Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, where he offered prayers and sought blessings for the prosperity and well-being of the people. Following this, he visited the Nathu La border, where he interacted with Indian Army personnel, boosting their morale.

Appreciating the unwavering dedication of the soldiers who serve the motherland under challenging conditions, the Governor commended them for their invaluable contributions and steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation, the release mentions.
