GANGTOK: The AAY and PHH beneficiaries in Sikkim whose living standards have
improved by getting government employment or other income sources of their
family members have been appealed to voluntarily surrender their ration cards.
Food &
Civil Supplies secretary Anil Raj Rai made this appeal on Wednesday so that the
left-out genuine, poor families can take these two schemes which offer free or
subsidised rice.
Under AAY
(Antodaya Anna Yojana), the State government can cover 16,500 households while
the limit for PHH (Priority House Hold) is 3,24,053 individuals.
There are
many more families in Sikkim who are eligible for these two schemes but are not
covered due to the capping fixed by the Union government.
Hence, the
Food & Civil Supplies department appeals to all those AAY and PHH
beneficiaries whose income has increased through government employment or other
sources of their family members to voluntarily surrender their AAY/PHH ration
cards so that the left-out poor families can take these facilities, said Rai.
Rai also
appealed those government employees whose are taking AAY and PHH benefits to
voluntarily surrender their ration cards so that the department can accommodate
the left-out eligible families.
For
surrendering ration cards, the concerned DCSOs are to be contacted at their
respective districts.
