PAKYONG,: On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and
Peace, the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps, in collaboration with the Pendam
Football Academy, supported local youth from several villages in Pendam by
distributing football kits to 32 young aspiring players aged between 8 and 18
at TikaLall Nirola Senior Secondary School.
Football
has a strong presence in Sikkim, including the border areas, and many young
local players have shown great potential.
The
Pendam Football Academy tries to provide a healthy training environment and
help improve the skill & proficiency of local youth in football. The Army
provided shoes, footballs, nets, cones, etc., to aid structured training
sessions at the football academy, a press release informs.
Equipping
young athletes with proper gear will create better opportunities for skill
development and structured practice in sports in the state at the grassroots
level.
Beyond
providing resources, the initiative also reflects the Army's continued
engagement with local communities, reinforcing its commitment to youth
development, discipline and teamwork through sports. The initiative dedicated
to supporting youth sports and strengthening community bonds was welcomed by
the officials of the academy, parents and the children themselves, the release
mentions.
The
players, donning new shoes and using new gear, played a friendly match with
