GANGTOK,: Kikam Bhutia, a senior women’s team coach of Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), has become the first from the Northeast to be appointed as a member of the coaching staff for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)-organized Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy.
The five-team tournament, featuring the nation’s top-performing women cricketers selected by the BCCI’s women’s selection committee, will take place in Chennai from January 5 to 15.
In a letter issued by the BCCI, Kikam has been named the fielding coach for ‘Team A.’
A Level B certified coach, Kikam has previously served as a member of the coaching staff for Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy held in November and several BCCI-conducted training camps.
SICA physiotherapist Sheril Lepcha will also travel to Chennai alongside Kikam, having been appointed as the physiotherapist for ‘Team B.’ Both Kikam and Sheril were assigned similar roles during the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy.
The consecutive appointments of Kikam and Sheril highlight not only their individual achievements but also the growing recognition of cricketing talent and professionals emerging from Sikkim, said SICA.
“We are proud of Kikam Bhutia and Sheril Lepcha for representing Sikkim at this prestigious level and wish them great success in their roles,” SICA stated.
