Lok Sabha polls: Indo-Nepal border closed for three days

SILIGURI,: The Indo-Nepal border in West Bengal will be closed from Tuesday evening for three days following Lok Sabha polls.

With the Lok Sabha polls scheduled on April 26, Darjeeling district administration has outlined the extensive arrangements and announced the sealing of the Indo-Nepal border starting from Tuesday evening, with a cessation of cross-border movement till April 26 evening.

The border will be sealed from 6 pm of April 23 onwards till voting process ends on April 26 to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights without any interference and voting process ends up peacefully without any disruptions.

Preeti Goyal, district magistrate, Darjeeling has issued an advisory, stating, “For the smooth conduct of election, all the international border (land) routes (Entry and Exist) need to be sealed and movement of both people and vehicles be restricted from 6 pm  of April 23rd till completion of poll.”

Meanwhile in emergencies exemptions are being given to medical cases, for movement of vehicles and people if the patients are in an emergency need to cross the border.

Security personnel including SSB battalion will be beefed up not only in the entry gates but also across all porous borders from Thakurganj in Bihar till Pasupati Fatak in Darjeeling.
