GANGTOK, : ‘Expressions 2025,’ the two-day annual cultural festival of Medhavi
Skills University, concluded on a high note at the university’s Topakhani
campus Saturday.
The
valedictory ceremony was attended by senior SP (Gangtok) Tenzing Loden Lepcha
as the chief guest, university’s co-founder and pro-chancellor Kuldip Sharma,
chancellor Pravesh Dudani and other dignitaries.
Founded
in 2012 in New Delhi, Medhavi Skills University has established itself as a
leader in government-supported skill development and education initiatives
across India. Its international footprint now extends to campuses in Germany,
Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom.
The
event commenced with the students performing ‘Jaha Bagcha Teesta Rangit’, in a
tribute to Sikkim’s 50 years of Statehood. It was followed by a vibrant display
of folk dances and musical performances representing the cultural richness of
the region.
Traditional
Bhutia, Nepali, and Lepcha dances, along with cultural presentations from
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur, reflected the ethnic diversity of
Northeast India. Contemporary music, slam poetry, stand-up comedy and a
concluding performance by ‘ALO THE BAND’ added a modern flair to the
festivities.
In
his welcome address, Kuldip Sharma emphasised that ‘Expressions’ goes beyond a
cultural celebration. “It is a platform for students to showcase their talents,
build leadership skills and foster holistic personal development.” He lauded
the students’ efforts in both organizing and participating in the event and
encouraged non-participating students to engage in future opportunities for
experiential learning.
Tenzing
Loden Lepcha, reflecting on his own college experience, admitted to missing out
on such opportunities and underscored the importance of overcoming stage
fright. He emphasized that participation itself is more valuable than the
performance as, he said, it builds confidence, communication skills and self-awareness.
He
encouraged students to embrace their cultural heritage, asserting that in a
fast-paced world, culture provides identity, grounding and inspiration.
Commending
the multifaceted achievements of MSU students in academics, sports, music and
community service, the senior SP said the festival highlighted their journey
toward becoming well-rounded, responsible individuals. He stressed the
importance of values, discipline and attitude in sustaining success and urged
students to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and substance abuse. Calling on
students to be change makers, he encouraged them to be the kind of youth society
can be proud of.
The
ceremony concluded with the chief guest felicitating winners of various
co-curricular competitions, including the spelling bee, anime quiz, extempore
speech, slam poetry, visual storytelling, solo dance, and Rangoli competition.
