GANGTOK, : Daramdin legislator Mingma Norbu Sherpa on Wednesday was elected
unanimously as the Speaker of the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
Sherpa
took charge of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly after Speaker Pro-Tem Sanjeet
Kharel administered the oath to all the newly elected members of the 11th
Assembly.
Sherpa was
the Power minister in the previous SKM Government.
Raj Kumari
Thapa, the Rangang-Yangang MLA, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
It was the
first session of the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly after
completion of the Assembly elections 2024. The SKM won 31 seats out of the 32
Assembly seats, commanding an absolute majority in the House.
SDF legislator
Tenzing Norbu Lamtha from Shyari constituency is the lone opposition MLA in the
House.
