NAMCHI,: Namchi SDF leaders on Thursday held a press meet regarding the
alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct by the ruling SKM in Namchi district
during the election campaigning phase.
The SDF
functionaries spoke about the incident of April 7 where the Water Resource
department in Namchi DAC was found allegedly functioning on Sunday,
distributing undated cheques. They added that the Election Commission, Namchi
district and Water Resource department have not yet responded to the complaint
submitted by the SDF on the same day against the illegal activities of the
ruling SKM.
SDF senior
vice president Binod Rai alleged that the ruling front was misusing the Water
Resource department office of Namchi, distributing undated cheques ranging from
Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh to individuals of Poklok-Kamrang, Namthang-Rateypani
and Temi-Namphing constituencies. This was done in violation of Model Code of
Conduct and to lure votes in favour of SKM…the technical sanctions and supply
orders were taken into custody of the General Observer on April 7, he said.
SDF
spokesperson Ramesh Kirat demanded a separate investigating team to carry
forward the inquiries on the detailed applications which the party has
submitted to the District Election Officer, Namchi district and the Namchi SHO
on April 7.
He further
demanded that the party be allowed to form a verification team for inquiries of
the beneficiaries if the department assures the authority that the bills were for
jhora training and protective walls.
